Ne'er cast a clout

Updated: Jan 29, 2024

After a long and wet winter, Spring has arrived at New Mills, the air is full of birdsong and, as well as the usual blackcaps and other warblers, we had a brief visit to the garden by a sedge warbler singing its scratchy song from some bamboo by the river. The cock pheasants are sparing and the grass is finally growing. Spring has sprung at last.

A couple of weeks ago the sheep were penned up as soon as we had a free day which was also dry. They were then given their long overdue vaccination and also feet inspections/treatment and dagging if required.

The woods are white with wild garlic flowers and, wowser, have the nettles put on a growth spurt. The blackthorn blossom has faded and now its the turn of the mayflower.
